Wilderness Park is an initiative of Environmental Action Bobcaygeon (EAB), a not-for-profit organization founded in 2008. Our mandate is to encourage, promote, and complete projects that will benefit the environment and the community.
Our vision for Wilderness Park is to provide safe, accessible trails for walking, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, through beautiful mature forest rich in plant and animal life. The park also provides a unique educational opportunity to visitors. Our large pollinator patch showcases hundreds of native plants and highlights the importance of pollinators, especially bees, to our ecosystems. Interpretative signs provide another educational component, explaining the significance of many of the natural features found within Wilderness Park and along the trails.
This initiative is rooted in strong partnerships that have come on board and proven their commitment to support our ongoing work - from helping to establish a pollinator garden and carrying out a biophysical inventory of the property. This is a project with tremendous vision and commitment to preserving our natural habitat and offering our community access to enjoy it all.
The creation of the trail will help to enhance the quality of life here in Bobcaygeon and to help us all connect more with the great outdoors, while learning to have better appreciation and in turn care for our precious environment.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation was able to support this initiative because it's a great fit with their priorities as we are building the capacity of the environment sector to safeguard and restore ecosystems.
